After the excavation of the Four Canons of the Yellow Emperor in 1973, several versions emerged. The one I initially purchased was Chen Guying’s version. After reading it, I found it helpful, but something still felt off.
The interpretation is overly belligerent; the original text opposes war and only uses it as a last resort.
The understanding of Yin and Yang is somewhat superficial, lacking sufficient connection to traditional culture and the background of the Spring and Autumn Period.
Some passages, considering their context, should have had their original meaning, but the interpretations, made to correspond with modern terminology, are somewhat forced.
